I've also removed the pad from the sissy bar, and I use a 12 inch LazyRider. Another advantage is that the 12" stores more gear, and would probably adapt to other bikes better if you change. I'm 5'10" and about 190 lbs.
Also, I've removed the "lumbar supprt" from the back pad. (it pushed my hips a little to far forward)
